A close relative to the onion, shallots and chives, garlic has had a role in both cuisine and medicine for close to 7,000 years.
While best known for the role it plays with Italian food, garlic is a frequent seasoning found throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe. Thai food would be nothing without it. Of course, there are less conventional expressions, like garlic ice cream. If you haven’t had it, give it a try!
My favorite use of garlic is to ward off vampires–more importantly–bad vampire movies like Twilight!
